What's included in a Hakkai aquascape workshop?

The class fee covers the tank, soil and substrate, hardscape, plants, and one hour of hands-on instruction. Tank size is typically a 1-1.5 gallon nano, so you leave with a finished, functioning aquascape you built yourself.

Do I need any experience to take a class?

No. Workshops are open to the public at all skill levels, from complete beginners to people who've kept tanks for years and want to sharpen technique.

Where are workshops held?

Workshops run out of our Convoy District studio, with a recurring public class also held at Citizen Brewers in Mission Valley. Check current class listings for dates and location for a specific session.

How does a custom aquascape design and install work?

We start with your space, tank size, and the style you're drawn to (Iwagumi, Dutch, jungle/nature, paludarium, and others), then design and install the hardscape and planting on-site. Reach out with your tank details and photos of the space to start a quote.

Do you maintain tanks after installation, or is it one-time?

Both are available — a one-time install for people who want to take over maintenance themselves, or an ongoing maintenance plan for a tank that stays pristine without the weekly work landing on you.
